Our passion
The Baroque Collection can best be described as classic, with a passion for tradition and with its own unique character. Every six months the collection is updated and expanded to our own idea and design. We find new inspiration by visiting antique shops and during our trips in the Far East. In cooperation with a number of regular suppliers, these products are then created into unique items, often in a traditional way. The mix of English charm and Eastern craftsmanship gives the Baroque Collection its typical French romantic atmosphere.
Back in time
The Baroque Collection takes you back in time. The golden age, an era of great style, chic and elegance. A period in which much use was made of gold, shiny silver and sparkling crystal. Atmospheric utensils made of copper and precious metals by real craftsmen. In an identical manner, our extensive collection is recreated in detail by old craftsmen, mostly in the Far East. This makes the collection unique and timeless.
The definition of Baroque
The word "baroque" comes from French, where it meant "odd" or "grotesque". This French word is borrowed from the Portuguese barocco, which means "irregular pearl", and that word in turn comes from the Celtic barros. The Baroque is a European style period that developed in the early seventeenth century in present-day Italy and lasted until the first half of the eighteenth century, and is characterized by an excess of form and intensity of emotional expression. The Baroque was expressed in all areas of culture, such as architecture, landscape gardening, painting, sculpture, literature and music.
Origin of the Baroque Collection
Our search for beautiful and suitable new items for the Baroque Collection not only takes us to antique markets at home and abroad, but also to places in the world where time seems to have stood still. Fantastic places in India, where life still seems like it was when the Maharajas ruled. Men wear turbans and big beards, women are dressed in colorful saris and cheerful playing children fill the streets. Where handmade items were made for the English 100 years ago, they are now made in the same traditional way for the Baroque Collection.
